The National Energy Commission (CNE) of the Dominican Republic has announced its approval of the development of the second phase of the Montecristi Solar photovoltaic energy park, located in the municipality of Guayubín, Montecristi province, which has an estimated total investment of US$180 million.
This second phase will add up to 57.96 MW capacity to the solar park, resulting in a total installed capacity of 115.92 MW, which is expected to supply around 100,000 households. The first 58 MW phase was completed in July this year. Full commercial operations are scheduled for summer 2019.
The project is being partially financed by a debt package arranged by German development finance institution (DFI) DEG. Belgian and Dutch DFIs also contributed to the package.
