German railway company Deutsche Bahn AG has entered into a power purchase agreement of up to 780 GWh annual energy from renewable energy projects in Germany.
Deutsche Bahn has signed a five-year deal with Verbund AG for its Egglfing-Obernberg Hydropower Plant located in Lower Bavaria (approx. 440 GWh per year), 15-year deal with RWE AG for its Amrumbank-West offshore wind project in the North Sea (approx. 260 GWh per year), and 30-year deal with Enerparc for its Gaarz bei Plau am See solar project located Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (approx. 80 GWh per year).
Deutsche Bahn intends to source the entire energy requirement of its trains from renewable energy by 2038.
