Corby Limited has secured approval for the proposed 23 MW waste-to-energy plant on the Willowbrook Industrial Estate, Corby, from the Northamptonshire county council.

The plan to build an energy recovery facility using gasification technology has been in place since 2016. Corby Ltd chooses to pick more proven and high efficient technology due to lack of funding. The proposed capacity for the plant has increased from up to 195,000 tonnes of waste a year to 260,000 tonnes a year of residual waste and refuse-derived fuel.

Corby sets to start construction on the Energy Recovery Centre (ERC) in 2020. The proposed facility would generate 23 MW of baseload of power which Corby Ltd said was enough to meet the energy needs of most of the homes in Corby.
