Cheshire West and Chester council has approved the Progressive Energy's plan to develop a wood gasification plant with a capacity of 175,000 tonne-per-year capacity at Protos, near Cheshire's Ellesmere Port.
The plant will generate ‘renewable gas’ from 'unrecyclable wood' and expected to generate enough fuel to power up to 1,000 low carbon Heavy Goods Vechicles and buses every year.
The facility will be using thermal treatment gasification process, in which the waste derived from fuel will be heated in a controlled environment to produce a combustible synthetic gas (SYN-Gas).
Progressive Energy planned to start the construction in 2020 and expected to be operational in 2022
