New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) has held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction of its first offshore wind farm port project under a public-private partnership scheme.

During Phase 1, the offshore wind port will be developed at a 30-acre site located on an artificial island on the eastern shores of the Delaware River, southwest of the City of Salem. The project aims to achieve New Jersey's objectives of reaching 100% clean energy by 2050 and 7.5 GW of offshore wind energy by 2035. The project is expected to be operational by 2024.

The project is being developed by Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind, a consortium formed by EDF Renewables North America, Shell New Energies US, and Ørsted A/S. Aecom and Tishman will provide construction management services for the project.
