Engie SA and its partners have started the construction of the Jubail 3B Independent Water Project (IWP), a water desalination facility in Saudi Arabia. The project will be built at Jubail, an industrial city on the eastern coast, and will be partially powered by a 61 MWp solar project.
The consortium working on the IWP plant also comprises Nesma Company Ltd, the Ajlan & Bros holding company and Engie. The project also includes a 58-kilometer (36.04-mile) power line and an electricity substation.
The project will operate under the terms of a 25-year Water Purchase Agreement and will supply water to Riyadh and Qassim regions starting in 2024.
