The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched an inquiry into Ovo’s GBP500 million (US$644.7 million) purchase of SSE’s energy supply division.
SSE’s retail energy business supplies around 3.5 million households in the UK.
The regulator is considering whether the move would result in a substantial lessening of competition in the UK energy market.
The CMA is inviting comments from interested parties until 6th November 2019.
