Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) is investing EUR7.34 billion (US$7.53 billion) to build a 100 GWh battery production plant located in Debrecen in eastern Hungary.
The project will be constructed on about 221 ha of land area in the Southern Industrial Park of Debrecen. It will be in close proximity to some auto plants of CATL's customers such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Stellantis, and Volkswagen.
CATL is planning to use electricity from renewable energies for the operation of its battery manufacturing plant. To build a sustainable and circular battery value chain, the company is also examining the possibility of joining forces with local partners to establish facilities for battery materials in Europe.
