Caledonia Mining Corp seeks proposal for 20 MW Blanket Mine Solar Farm near Gwanda

Caledonia Mining Corporation plans to set up a PV project with 19.65 MW capacity in Zimbabwe to power the Blanket Gold Mine. The project involves setting up an integrated energy storage system of unidentified capacity to support solar power generated by the plant.

Caledonia has issued a request for qualification (RFQ) round to select a company that will develop, construct and/or own and operate the plant.

To be constructed on a 40-hectare piece of land adjacent to the mine near Gwanda, the PV project is envisaged to be developed in three phases of 6.55 MW each based on the mine’s minimum demand, maximum demand and a third phase based on facilitating electricity demands of potential future developments.

Last date to submit applications is November 8, 2019. Qualifying applicants will be required to submit their request for proposals (RFP) by December 20, 2019 with final contracts to be awarded in February 2020 end. Tender details can be viewed here.

Caledonia Mining Corporation expects to select and award the contract for EPC service in Q1/2020 with a project completion date of Q4/2020.
