Avanzalia Panama, a subsidiary of Avanzalia Solar, has switched online its 120 MW Penonomé solar photovoltaic project located in the district of Coclé in Panama.
The project consists of 450,000 solar panels and 89 inverters and was fully developed by the end of 2020, originally scheduled to be switched on at the end of 2019, but the company then conducted numerous power supply tests throughout 2021. The project is expected to produce 240 GWh annually. It is the initial huge plant of its kind to be straight attached to the network of nationwide grid driver ETESA at 230,000 volts.
The US$160 million project has been certified by the National Dispatch Center of Panama and is currently on the final financing phase, which will be completed when Panamanian and North American investors issue a green bond in Panama. Spanish engineering team TSK handled the construction of the plant. In October 2019, Avanzalia signed 22-year long-term power sale agreements for the project with unspecified large clients.
