The conclusion of the installation of all 170-MW Sarco wind park turbines was announced last week by Ireland-based firm Mainstream Renewable Power located in the commune of Freirina, Huasco province.
The wind farm required USD 240 million (EUR 211m) investments. Mainstream developed and built the facility owned by Aela Energia, a 40/60 joint venture (JV) between the Irish company and private equity firm Actis.
The 50 wind turbines of 3.4 MW each, supplied by German wind turbine maker Senvion SA expected to generate enough power to meet the demand of approximately 260,000 homes.
A 73-km (45.36 miles) transmission line has been built to transport the plant's output to the Maitencillo substation, where it can be injected into the National Electric System (SEN).
