The province of Alberta in Canada has selected 8 wind projects with total energy capacity of 763 MW in tender under Round 2 and 3 of Renewable Energy Programme (REP) held by Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO).
AESO signed 20-year power purchase agreements with the winners of the projects.
The selected projects totalled around CAD 1.2 billion investment. This will create about 1,000 jobs and other local benefits over the life of the projects.
The following are the selected projects:
- 202 MW Cypress wind project in Medicine Hat owned by EDF Renewables Canada Inc. and Kainai First Nation
- 113 MW Stirling wind project in Alberta owned by Potentia Renewables Inc., Paul First Nation and Calgary-based Greengate Power Corp.
- 18 MW Buffalo Atlee wind farm 1 project in Brooks owned by Capstone Infrastructure Corp. and Sawridge First Nation
- 14 MW Buffalo Atlee wind farm 2 project in Brooks owned by Capstone Infrastructure Corp. and Sawridge First Nation
- 18 MW Buffalo Atlee wind farm 3 project in Brooks owned by Capstone Infrastructure Corp. and Sawridge First Nation
- 207 MW Windrise wind project in Pincher Creek owned by TransAlta Corp.
- 123 MW Jenner wind 1 project in Brooks owned by Potentia Renewables Inc.
- 72 MW Jenner wind 2 project in Brooks owned by Potentia Renewables Inc.
The projects will begin construction in 2020 and be commissioned in 2021. The projects can power up around 300,000 households.
