AES Gener will supply 100% of renewable energy to Sierra Gorda SCM mining operations after the signing of a long-term power supply agreement which involves the 180 MW Andes Solar II B photovoltaic park located in the Antofagasta Region, Chile.

The 19-year commercial agreement will be effective from January 2021 for 40% of consumption, increasing to 100% from 2023, a percentage that will remain until December 2039.

The use of renewable energies by mining company Sierra Gorda SCM will allow the displacement of 1 million tons of CO2 per year, which is equivalent to supplying zero-emissions energy to 100% of the homes in the Antofagasta Region for 2.7 years.
