The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has committed a US$4 million loan financing for the development of a 15.1 MW solar power plant in Afghanistan.

The solar plant is being developed through Barakat Kandahar Solar Energy (BKSE), a special purpose vehicle of Turkey’s 77 Construction, Contracting and Trading Group. The project was awarded by Afghanistan’s Ministry of Water and Energy in an auction to 77 Group.

Aside from the ADB financing, a US$3.85 million loan is complemented with financing sourced from the Canadian Climate Fund for Private Sector in Asia II (CFPS II).
