Bhutan has launched an international tender for a 120 MW utility-scale solar farm, seeking a qualified developer to design, supply, install, test and commission the project on a turnkey basis. The state-owned Druk Green Power Corporation is managing the process and has set a deadline for bids in late January 2026; the procurement follows competitive bidding procedures aligned with Asian Development Bank (ADB) standards, as part of broader financing support for expanding solar capacity in the country.
This initiative marks a significant step in Bhutan’s renewable energy strategy, which has traditionally been dominated by hydropower, by diversifying its energy mix and boosting its energy security. The new solar farm—planned for the central region of the country—will add substantial utility-scale PV capacity and help reduce reliance on imported power while supporting sustainable economic growth.
