Turning Point Generation has announced that the construction and operation of the Canyon Creek Pumped Hydro Energy Storage Project has been formally approved by the Alberta Legislature, a requirement made necessary by the project’s status as a hydro development under the Hydro and Electric Energy Act (Alberta).
The Canyon Creek Hydro Development Act received Royal Assent on December 11, 2018 and enabled the Alberta Utilities Commission to issue its final approval of the project on December 21st.
The 75 MW Canyon Creek project, located about 13km from Hinton, Alberta, Canada, is designed incorporating two small off-stream water reservoirs, one atop the hill by Obed mine, the other at the bottom not far from the Athabasca River.
