First Solar has announced that Facebook has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with PacifiCorp for the 58 MWAC Cove Mountain Solar Project, located near Enterprise, Utah. The project will supply Facebook’s Prineville, Oregon Data Center.
This agreement is part of a larger deal structure that will support the data center with 100% renewable energy. The center currently consists of three buildings spanning 116,000 square metres, with another two in construction and, announced last month, two more to be added by mid-2020. Once these expansions are complete, the campus will span more than 300,000 square metres, making it Facebook's largest data center location.
The Cove Mountain Solar Project has been developed and will be built by First Solar. It will utilize the company’s Series 6 thin film modules mounted on single-axis trackers.
First Solar expects to begin construction on the project in late 2019, with commissioning scheduled for late 2020. First Solar Energy Services expects to provide Operations and Maintenance services.
