The Hai Long Offshore Wind Project announced the successful completion and delivery of 21 three-legged jacket foundations, manufactured by Taiwan-based supplier Century Wind Power Co., Ltd.
This is the first project to complete foundation assembly using Century Wind Power’s newly developed “Twin Tower” facility, marking a major milestone in advancing the localization of Taiwan’s offshore wind sector. The delivered wind turbine jacket foundations are the largest and heaviest ever built for a Taiwanese offshore wind farm, each exceeding 90 meters in height and weighing around 2,000 metric tons—the equivalent of 1,000 cars. Beyond their unprecedented scale, these foundations also signify the first successful integration of an advanced “hydraulic gripper system” by Taiwan’s local supply chain in the fabrication process.
The hydraulic gripper system, with its intricate design, restricted welding space, and requirement to withstand heavy loads, is essential for the accurate alignment and structural stability of jacket foundations during installation—demonstrating advanced technical proficiency. Multiple companies and facilities within the Century Group—including Century Wind Power’s Taipei Port site, Century Iron and Steel’s Guanyin and Yunlin plants, Century Hwa Shin, along with other local subcontractors—played key roles in fabricating the jackets. A standout achievement was Century Wind Power’s use of the “Twin Tower,” the world’s first open-air heavy lifting facility purpose-built for assembling oversized offshore wind foundations for deep-water locations. This underscores the strength of Taiwan’s supply chain in not only leveraging global expertise but also driving innovation through advanced infrastructure and technology.
The project is set to achieve full grid connection by 2026 and will be Taiwan’s first offshore wind farm with a capacity above 1 GW, supplying clean energy to more than one million homes.
