Natural Resources Canada has announced funding of CAD40.5 million (US$32.44 million) for the 15 MW Clarke Lake geothermal project in the Province of British Columbia, Canada.
The project is wholly owned and Indigenous-led and it will develop one of the first commercially viable geothermal electricity production facilities in Canada. The Clarke Lake geothermal plant will produce up to 15 MW of electricity, which is equivalent to powering around 14,000 households. By replacing fossil-fuel generation in northeast British Columbia, it will reduce 25,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually.
The project is expected to be completed by 2024.
