Vattenfall has opened the Princess Ariane Wind Farm, formerly known as Wieringermeer wind farm project, the largest Dutch onshore wind farm.
Ten years of preparations and three years of construction preceded the opening of the wind farm. The turbines were built in ‘line configurations’, so they fit well into the landscape of the Wieringermeer. It consists of 82 Nordex N117/3.6 MW wind turbines and will generate renewable electricity equalling the demand of approximately 370,000 households. The total capacity of the 82 wind turbines adds up to 301 MW.
The Princess Ariane wind farm will supply power to the US software giant Microsoft Corp through the ten-year power purchase agreement (PPA) signed in 2017.
The CrossWind consortium, a joint venture between Shell in the Netherlands and Eneco, has been awarded the tender for the subsidy-free offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust (noord). The wind farm will help to meet the objectives of the Dutch Climate Accord and the EU’s Green Deal. Both companies have already taken their final investment decisions on the project.
