Vattenfall sign PPA deal for the 300 MW wind project in Netherlands

Vattenfall AB, a state-owned utility in Sweden, has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for renewable electricity from the new upgraded 300 MW Zeewolde wind farm in the Netherlands.

Until the end of 2021, 220 existing wind turbines will be replaced by 91 larger and more powerful turbines which will produce more than 850 GWh every year. This makes it the largest onshore wind project in the Netherlands.

Vattenfall will purchase power from 83 of the new turbines with an installed capacity of more than 300 MW.

According to Erik Suichies, head of Vattenfall’s European wholesale customer business, ¨This is the largest purchasing contract that Vattenfall has ever concluded for renewable energy in the Netherlands. Zeewolde wind farm will supply sustainable electricity to 250,000 Vattenfall customers.¨

Zeewolde wind farm is owned by more than 200 farmers, residents and entrepreneurs from the outskirts of Zeewolde. Together they form the largest farmers / civil wind collective in Europe. The repowering work to exchange the existing wind turbines by more powerful turbines will start at the end of 2019 and is expected to last until the end of 2021.

Purchase of the electricity from the Zeewolde farm is part of Vattenfall strategy to make a fossil-free living possible within one generation.
