Fred. Olsen Windcarrier (FOWIC) has been awarded a contract directly by Vestas Wind Systems (Vestas) for the transportation and installation of 50 Vestas V174-9.5MW wind turbines at the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm in Germany. The installation works will commence in 2024.
The jack-up installation vessel Blue Tern will execute the contract and the vessel was nominated for the site due to her ability to operate at deep water sites. The Baltic Sea represents challenging soil conditions which require significant available leg lengths and jacking experience.
Dennis Mordhorst, Head of Marine Operations and Vessel Management, Vestas says: “Our collaboration with FOWIC goes back for years and this contract award emphasizes once again our strong partnership. FOWIC brings their proven offshore wind expertise and a highly capable vessel to the Baltic Eagle site and we look forward to a safe and successful project execution.”
The 476 MW offshore wind project is expected to save 1.65 million tons of CO2 emissions each year and supplies the power equivalent to 45% of the total consumption of the Federal State of Mecklemburg-Western Pomerania. The wind farm includes the offshore substation for collecting the generated electricity and connecting it to the onshore transmission grid in Lubmin, Germany.
