QatarEnergy Renewable Solutions, a wholly-owned affiliate of QatarEnergy, has awarded Samsung C&T the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the development of two solar photovoltaic (PV) projects with a combined capacity of 875 MW in Qatar.
The project involves the development of 2 solar parks, the first PV facility has a capacity of 417 MW and will be built in the Mesaieed Industrial City (MIC) whereas the 458 MW solar PV plant will be located in Ras Laffan Industrial City (RLIC). The solar PV plants will occupy a combined area of 10 sq. km. and will utilize high-efficiency bifacial modules mounted on single-axis trackers as well as cleaning robots that will operate daily to minimize losses due to soiling by removing dust from the PV modules.
The QAR2.3 billion project (US$630.06 million) project is expected to reduce more than 28 million tons of CO2 over its lifetime.
