Amprion Offshore GmbH has awarded Prysmian Group two contracts worth over EUR800 million (US$800 million) including options for the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of land and submarine cables for the 1.8 GW DolWin4 & BorWin4 offshore transmission projects in the North Sea of Germany.
Under the contract, Prysmian will deliver about 1000 km of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) ±320 kV single-core copper cables insulated with XLPE insulation. The company will also be responsible for installing the subsea cables with other vessels, ensuring the lowest possible environmental impact.
Both transmission line projects can transmit 900 MW power and feature about 1,000 km (621 miles) of high voltage direct current (HVDC) land and submarine cables. On the land side, the two systems run on the main part of the route in parallel trenches to the 300-km A-Nord underground cable corridor. The subsea cables will run from the offshore platforms via the national park “Niedersächsisches Wattenmeer”, crossing the island Norderney before being connected to the onshore cables close to Hilgenriedersiel.
Cable delivery and commissioning for both projects are scheduled for 2028.
