Lausitz Energie Bergbau AG (LEAG) has announced its plans for a 300 MW solar photovoltaic park on the reclaimed land of an opencast mine in Brandenburg, Germany.
The Huehnerwasser und Wolkenberg solar project is planned to be built on an area of 350 ha (864.9 acres) of the Welzow-Sued opencast mine located between Spremberg and Papproth. The municipal council of Spremberg has given its approval for the development of the project. The decision initiates the land use planning process, which also entails thorough project planning and environmental analysis. On the project implementation, LEAG is collaborating with EP New Energies GmbH (EPNE).
Huehnerwasser und Wolkenberg is part of LEAG's plan to replace all of its 7 GW of existing conventional power generation capacity with renewable energy.
