Ørsted and PGE have applied for seabed acreage adjacent to the 2500 MW Baltica offshore wind farm complex off the coast of Poland, which is currently under construction.
The joint application to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland includes the 45.E.1 site on Lawica Slupska, a 17 sq. km area located next to the Baltica wind farm zone in the Polish Baltic Sea. The area is also approximately 32 km from the shore. The application was submitted on February 23, 2022.
Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, said: "The location we are applying for, complements the acreage of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm. Obtaining a permit for an area will allow us to achieve synergy with the Baltica 2 project and guarantee maximizing the use of this part of the Baltic Sea, and ultimately will ensure an increase in green electricity production."
The first stage of the project, the 1 GW Baltica 3, is scheduled to go online in 2026, with the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 set to be finished in 2027. Baltica 2 and 3 have secured location approvals, environmental licenses, transmission network connection agreements with the operator, and an initial Contract for Difference.
