The 1,022 MW Hai Long Offshore Wind Project located in Taiwan Strait, Taiwan has announced the official launch of offshore construction.
The US$6 billion wind project is a Joint Venture between Northland Power, Yushan Energy and Mitsui & Co., Ltd and is expected to become operational by 2026. The wind complex consists of 14-222 DD offshore wind turbines installed 50 km off the coast of Changhua County. Each turbine has a capacity of 14 MW and features a rotor diameter of 222 m using a 108 m long Siemens Gamesa Integral Blades. The project is developed in two phases Hai Long 2A (294 MW) and Hai Long 2B and 3 (728 MW)
Hai Long has already completed pre-construction offshore works such as seabed geophysical and geotechnical surveys and seabed leveling. Progress on the fabrication of foundation pin piles and foundations for the offshore substations is also on schedule. The project team is fully prepared to commence offshore transportation and installation operations. The first step will involve the installation of pin piles for foundations, followed by the laying of submarine cables and the installation of offshore substations. Wind turbine installation activities are expected to commence next year.
