Ocean Winds named its 1.7 GW Offshore wind farm in USA

Ocean Winds East, an international offshore wind energy firm formed by EDP Renewables (EDPR) and ENGIE (50:50) and Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), has revealed that Bluepoint Wind is the official name of its planned 1.7 GW offshore wind power project in the New York Bight, USA. The offshore scheme is in the early stages of development.

The project will be positioned 38 nautical miles off the coast of New York and 53 nautical miles off the coast of New Jersey. It will be capable of producing up to 1.7 GW of electricity, enough to power up to 900,000 homes and will offset an estimated 5 million metric tons of CO2 emissions.

The project will assist neighboring states in achieving significant offshore wind and greenhouse gas reduction targets, such as New York's aim of creating 9,000 megawatts of offshore wind energy by 2035 and New Jersey's goal of developing 7,500 megawatts of offshore wind energy by 2035.
