Mayer Brown boosts its global Energy capabilities with addition of London partner Mathew Kidwell

Mayer Brown has appointed Mathew Kidwell as a partner in London to further boost its global Energy group.

With more than 20 years of experience in the petroleum sector, Mathew is a highly accomplished corporate oil and gas lawyer with extensive transactional and advisory experience, which includes acquisitions and divestitures, farm-ins and farm-outs, PSAs and concessions, project development, construction, and joint ventures.

Mathew has represented both independent and national oil companies, governments, banks, project sponsors, developers, contractors and oil service providers in complex international transactions spanning the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, the CIS, Europe, and Latin America. During his career, he has held resident postings in the Middle East and Brazil.

Commenting on the appointment, Jeremy Kenley, co-leader of the global Corporate & Securities practice at Mayer Brown, said:

“We have substantial oil and gas capabilities firmwide and given the growth of the market we have been keen to add further depth to our team in London, which serves as a key global hub for the energy industry. The addition of Mathew is another strategic step in the development of our energy offering to clients, and his geographic focus on the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Asia and South America, complements the international practice of our existing team in London.”

Thomas Moore, co-leader of the global Energy group at Mayer Brown, added:

“Mathew brings the knowledge and global experience our major oil company, government and financial institution clients expect from Mayer Brown. His upstream oil and gas focus adds another substantial component to our full service energy practice in London. His addition to our already strong London capabilities will help us grow our energy and oil and gas offering to be one of the pre-eminent practices in the London market, which serves industry stakeholders worldwide on deals that are based on an English law contractual structure or are financed in the London market."

Mathew Kidwell said:

“Mayer Brown has outstanding global reach and an impressive reputation for its work in the energy and oil and gas sector. I look forward to working with the London and global team to further the firm's focus on work in the oil and gas sector from London."
