India extends timeline for renewable energy projects due to COVID-19
The Government of India has extended the deadline of all renewable energy projects currently under development because of the lockdown brought by COVID-19 pandemic
The projects granted for the implementation will be extended equal to the period of the lockdown and an additional 30 days. The developers will no be required by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to provide evidence or documentation to prove the delay of the completion of the project.
Previously, MNRE the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy had communicated to the states, Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and NTPC to grant extensions on a case-to-case basis, depending on the proves provided by developers related to the disruptions to their supply chains due to the spread of the COVID-19 in China or any other country.
The government has started the nationwide shutdown on March 24 and all businesses were closed except for those providing essential products and services. The lockdown is considered as a force majeure event and the developers of the project will not be penalized for the delays for the delivery of the contract.
