Iberdrola has completed the installation of the last wind turbine at its first wind-solar hybrid project in the world: Port Augusta, located in the state of South Australia, comprising 50 wind turbines and 250,000 solar panels.
The renewable facility combines 210 MW of wind power with 107 MW of photovoltaic power, it's construction has created 200 jobs. The project represents an investment of AUD500 million (USD 539 million).
The facility occupies approximately 5400 hectares of land running from Port Paterson in the north, to Winninowie in the south and spanning Highway One. The project will produce approximately 900 gigawatt-hours (GWh) per annum, enough to power around 180,000 households each year, with emissions-saving of approximately 400,000 metric tonnes of CO2 annually.
The project will be ready to connect to the grid in the upcoming months and once this connection is approved, it will provide an additional 320 MW of low-cost green energy into the South Australian market. PAREP’s renewable energy supply will contribute to lower electricity prices for consumers and will further de-carbonize the South Australian economy.
