Grenergy has laid the first stone for the Monte Águila hybrid solar power and storage plant, located in El Cabrero, in the Biobío region, one of the phases that make up the Central Oasis project in Chile. The plant represents an investment of US$264 million and will have an installed capacity of 340 MW of solar energy and 960 MWh of battery storage. The plant is expected to be connected in early 2027.
Monte Águila forms part of Grenergy’s Central Oasis platform in central Chile, which is designed to deliver 1.1 GW of solar capacity and 3.8 GWh of energy storage. The project is divided into five phases, all scheduled to begin operations in 2027. Every phase already has secured power purchase agreements (PPAs), including the first base-load PPA—ensuring a continuous 24/7 electricity supply—signed with Codelco, Chile’s state-owned mining company and the world’s largest copper producer.
The Central Oasis project seeks to mirror the successful hybrid model pioneered by Grenergy at Oasis de Atacama—one of the world’s largest battery platforms and the first of its kind in Latin America—situated in northern Chile. Oasis de Atacama is planned to deliver 2 GW of generation capacity and 11 GWh of energy storage, with completion targeted for 2027.
