Everbright International signs Nanqiao Biomass Power Generation Project

China Everbright International Limited has signed an investment agreement with the People’s Government of Nanqiao District of Chuzhou City, Anhui Province, for the investment, construction and operation of a biomass power generation project in Nanqiao District, China.

Nanqiao project is the sixth biomass integrated utilisation project that Everbright International has secured in Anhui Province.

The project has an annual agricultural waste and straw processing capacity of approximately 280,000 tonnes. The project will be equipped with a 130t/h furnace and a 30 MW power generator to generate on-grid electricity of 200,000,000 kWh annually.

The total project investment is estimated at RMB320 million (US$52.2 million).

Mr. Chen Xiaoping, CEO of Everbright International, stated,

“The People’s Government of Anhui Province has issued the Options on Accelerating the Development of Agricultural Straw-to-energy Projects and the Options on Financial Subsidies for Agricultural Straw-to-energy Projects, which will encourage the investment and construction of biomass power generation projects to help solve the problem of agricultural straw burning in the countryside and protect the environment.”

Mr. Chen added,

“Following the biomass integrated utilisation projects in Dangshan, Hanshan, Dingyuan, Huaiyuan and Lingbi, the Group continues to intensify its efforts in the investment and construction of biomass projects in Anhui Province. This does not only reflect the Group’s strength in environmental protection technology and market influence but also shows the Group’s proactive engagement in its social responsibilities and determination to control air pollution through its development on the biomass power generation industry.”

Chuzhou City is one of 20 commodity grain bases nationwide. Nanqiao District has been named the ‘National Commodity Grain Base County’; ‘China’s Principal County for Grain Production’ and included in China’s Huang Huai Hai agricultural integrated development zone thus it has abundant biomass resources. Nanqiao project is located close to the Group’s other projects in Nanjing, Dingyuan and Hanshan, which will strengthen its strategic layout in the region and help to achieve synergies.
