ElectraNet to build 200 MW hydrogen fueled power plant and storage system in Australia

ElectraNet has announced that it has become a Project Partner of the South Australian Government’s Hydrogen Jobs Plan. Under this Plan, Electranet will be responsible for the construction of a 250 Mwe electrolyser, a 200 MW hydrogen fueled power plant and storage system in Whyalla, South Australia. The project intends to provide additional grid stability and energy export opportunities, utilising excess renewable energy.

The project aims to scale green hydrogen superpower opportunity for: 

  • low-cost production of green hydrogen
  • the storage and use of green hydrogen to:   
    • accelerate the decarbonisation of South Australian industry, including through the operation of a world leading green hydrogen fuelled power station; and 
    • catalyze associated hydrogen industry jobs, investment and export opportunities.
