ElectraNet has announced that it will be responsible for connecting Epic Energy’s upcoming 100 MW/200 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to the Mannum substation located in South Australia.
The connection will involve extending an existing 132 kV busbar at Mannum substation to facilitate the cable connecting the BESS Facility. Epic Energy has been involved in the development of the Mannum BESS via development partner Recurrent Energy over the past two years and will be investing approximately AUD130 million (US$84.73 million) in the project.
The Mannum BESS is proposing to use Canadian Solar and e-Storage’s proprietary SolBank battery solution, which is based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells, that offers a high level of safety due to its integration of a top-tier active balancing battery management system (BMS) with the product’s thermal management system. Construction is due to start this year, with expected completion and energisation in the second half of 2025.
