EDF Renewables North America (EDF) and Clean Power Alliance (CPA) have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the Desert Quartzite Solar-plus-Storage project in the USA. The PPA is for a period of 15 years.
Located in Riverside County, California, the project includes a 300 MWac photovoltaic (PV) plant combined with a 600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The project is expected to deliver electricity to CPA's customers in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties from February 2024. The amount of generated electricity is enough to meet the consumption of more than 163,000 average California homes, which is equivalent to save over 669,000 metric tons of CO2 per year.
The project's site is administered by the Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM), which designated this area as a Solar Energy Zone (SEZ) and Development Focus Area. The solar farm will utilize horizontal single-axis tracking solar photovoltaic (PV) technology and will create around 800 construction jobs.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is planning to review a proposed 800 MW Sunrise offshore wind project in New York, USA.
