Clearway Energy Group has reached commercial operations at its 340 MW Mesquite Sky wind farm in Callahan County, Texas. The facility features 68 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines generating enough clean electricity to power more than 87,000 West Texas households each year.
The construction of the project created 450 jobs and generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in local spending. Mesquite Sky will sell power under long-term virtual power purchase agreements to support the sustainability commitments of corporate customers Deere & Company and Whirlpool Corporation. Clearway also partnered in development and pre-construction services for the project with NorthRenew Energy, which had been the original developer for the project.
The project will contribute more than USD173 million to Callahan County’s economy through land lease and property tax payments over the course of its operating period.
