South Gloucestershire Council has granted approval to RES for its 25-MW Varley solar farm project located south east of Cromhall, South West England.
The planning application was submitted early last year, around half a year after initial plans for the project were presented in July 2022. Once operational, Varley Solar Farm will be capable of producing up to 25 MW of clean energy every year, the equivalent of supplying nearly 10,000 houses annually, as well as preventing around 600,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions over its 40 years lifetime, compared to fossil fuel.
As previously stated by RES, the project site was selected because of its favorable solar radiation levels and close access to infrastructure that may be used to connect to the grid. The British company manages 12 GW of assets for clients worldwide and has completed more than 23 GW of renewable energy projects.
