Boralex Inc. has secured a Contract for Difference (CfD) for the 108 MW Limekiln Wind farm located near Thurso, in the north of Scotland. The UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has awarded a 15-year CfD at a level of GBP52.29/MWh (US$65.3/MWh) in 2012 prices.
Country Manager Esbjörn Wilmar said: "This strike price provides us with the certainty of a stable income and helps to secure project finance. The enabling works have already been completed and the turbine supply agreement with Vestas was signed last year. Having the CfD now in place, with the construction of the onsite substation and grid connection underway, the project is making good progress.”
The UK launched Contracts for Difference in 2014 as a market support tool for low carbon energy projects. The program's goal is to promote the creation of extensive renewable energy infrastructure while reducing consumer costs and stabilizing market volatility.
Wind Farm consists of 24 Vestas V136-4.5 MW wind turbines measuring 150 m to the tip of the blade. It is expected that the project will be fully operational by 2025.
