ACWA Power takes over Jordan solar project

ACWA Power has taken over Sunrise Solar Energy PSC, a project company that plans to develop a 50-MW photovoltaic (PV) plant in Jordan.

Located in the Mafraq Development Area, the project secured a connection transmission agreement (CTA) in January 2016 and a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO).

Germany-based ET Solutions is the selected engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project. Operation and maintenance (O&M) of the project will be provided by Central Electricity Generating Company (CEGCO) of Jordan and an ACWA Power's subsidiary.

The project was awarded the lowest tariff in the country’s second 200 MW photovoltaic tender round.

In May last year we reported that Jordan announced the successful bidders of the tender, which saw record low feed-in tariffs (FITS) with the four successful bids attracting tariffs 50% under those seen in the first tender.
