Acciona has commissioned the 125 MW Extremadura I, II, and III solar photovoltaic (PV) complex located in the town of Almendralejo, in the province of Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain.
With approximately EUR80 million (US$87 million) investment, the project consists of 234,640 solar panels, each rated at 540 W. It will generate 257 GWh of clean electricity per year, equivalent to the consumption of around 65,000 homes, and will avoid the emission of approximately 112,000 tons of CO2 annually.
The Extremadura I, II, and III solar farms began construction in November 2021. A series of archaeological remains and almost 5,000-year-old Chalcolithic settlements were discovered during the development. The company has modified its photovoltaic project to safeguard the remains.
