THDC India Limited was incorporated in July’88 to develop, operate and maintain the Tehri Hydro Power Complex and other Hydro Projects. THDC India Limited (formerly Tehri Hydro Development Corporation) is a premier government-owned power utility in India, operating under the Ministry of Power and majority-owned by NTPC Limited. Established in 1988, THDC is a Mini-Ratna Category-I and Schedule-A Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE), with its corporate headquarters in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. The company specializes in the development, operation, and maintenance of hydro, thermal, and renewable energy projects across the country. Its flagship asset is the Tehri Hydro Power Complex, which includes the 1,000 MW Tehri Dam & HPP, 400 MW Koteshwar HEP, and the pioneering 1,000 MW Tehri Pumped Storage Plant—the first in India to deploy advanced variable-speed technology. In addition to hydro, THDC is also expanding into wind, solar, and thermal generation, including projects like the Khurja Super Thermal Power Plant (1,320 MW) and multiple solar ventures in Uttar Pradesh. With an operational portfolio of over 1.5 GW and over 2.7 GW under development, THDC plays a vital role in supporting India’s energy transition by delivering flexible, clean, and grid-stabilizing power solutions.
