Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd (KREDL) is a government-linked nodal agency established in 1996 by the Government of Karnataka to promote, facilitate and develop renewable energy projects across the state of Karnataka. It functions under the state’s Energy Department and coordinates with both central and state authorities to implement renewable energy policies, support project developers, and attract private investment in non-conventional energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass, small hydro and cogeneration.
KREDL’s core activities include identifying renewable energy potential, issuing tenders and facilitating project development, providing guidance on land use and regulatory clearances, and acting as the State Designated Agency (SDA) to implement energy efficiency and conservation programs. It also monitors and regulates independent power producers in Karnataka as per prevailing state and national policies. Over the years, KREDL has played a key role in commissioning numerous renewable energy projects and advancing Karnataka’s clean energy goals by supporting large-scale solar and wind installations, energy storage initiatives, and other sustainable energy technologies — making it a central institution in the state’s transition to greener power systems.
