Island Green Power

Company description

Founded in 2013, Island Green Power is a UK-based developer of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) farms and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The company manages the entire development process—from land acquisition and grid connection to securing planning consent and delivering build-ready projects. To date, IGP has delivered over 34 global solar projects, representing more than 3 GW of capacity. This includes 20 projects in the UK, such as the large-scale Cottam Solar Project (600 MW) and West Burton Solar Farm (480 MW). Since 2022, Macquarie Asset Management has held a 50% stake in IGP. In 2025, Macquarie increased its ownership to 100%, taking full control of IGP's UK operations. The company is now transitioning from a developer to an Independent Power Producer (IPP)—meaning it will not just develop, but also build, operate, and manage renewable energy assets in the UK. Meanwhile, the founders retain full ownership of IGP’s international business. IGP boasts a robust development pipeline exceeding 15 GW of solar and BESS projects across the UK. Its flagship projects—Cottam (600 MW) and West Burton (480 MW)—are among the largest solar farms in the country and key contributors to UK decarbonization goals under the Clean Power 2030 Action Plan.
