DSB

Company description

DSB is Denmark’s national passenger rail operator, founded in 1885 through the merger of the state-owned companies De jysk‑fynske Statsbaner and De sjællandske Statsbaner. It is an independent public corporation wholly owned by the Danish state under the supervision of the Danish Ministry of Transport. Serving as the largest train operator in Scandinavia, DSB carries well over 195 million passengers annually and operates a vast network of commuter, regional, intercity, and international services — including the suburban “S-train” around Copenhagen — across hundreds of stations. The company manages daily operations for around 450,000 passengers and maintains one of Denmark’s largest portfolios of land and railway properties.

DSB runs on a commercial basis while fulfilling public-service obligations under contract with the state. The organization emphasizes corporate governance, transparency, and sustainability, exemplified by its environmental commitments and recent investments to upgrade its fleet to more efficient, low-emission electric trains.
