Ardagh Group

Company description

Ardagh Group is a global supplier of sustainable metal and glass packaging solutions for many of the world’s leading food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and consumer goods brands. Headquartered in Luxembourg, the company specializes in producing infinitely recyclable aluminum, steel, and glass packaging, including beverage cans, glass bottles, jars, and specialty containers. Ardagh operates manufacturing facilities across Europe, North America, and Africa, serving multinational consumer brands through a large-scale industrial and logistics network.

The company traces its origins to 1932, when it was founded in Dublin as the Irish Glass Bottle Company. Ardagh expanded significantly after entrepreneur Paul Coulson acquired a stake in the business in 1998 and, through a series of international acquisitions, transformed it into one of the world’s largest packaging groups. Over the years, the company acquired major packaging assets, including Impress Group, Anchor Glass, Verallia North America, and Rexam Glass, substantially strengthening its position in the global packaging industry.

Ardagh Group operates through two principal business segments: metal packaging and glass packaging. Its subsidiary, Ardagh Metal Packaging (AMP), which is partially listed on the New York Stock Exchange, manufactures sustainable beverage cans for the global drinks industry. The company also holds a significant ownership stake in Trivium Packaging, a supplier of metal packaging solutions for food, personal care, and specialty products. Across its operations, Ardagh manages approximately 58 production facilities in 16 countries and employs around 19,000 people worldwide. Annual sales are reported at approximately US$9 billion.
