Xcel Energy has started construction on a 522 MW, US$900 million wind farm project in New Mexico, USA.
The new Sagamore Wind facility is being built in Roosevelt County, south of Portales. The facility will feature 240 Vestas turbines and is scheduled to come online in late 2020. Once operational, it will generate enough power to supply about 194,000 homes per year.
Invenergy developed Sagamore before entering into an agreement with Xcel Energy in 2017 to acquire and build the project. Sagamore is the largest and final component of a 1230 MW wind energy expansion on Xcel Energy’s New Mexico-Texas system.
