The State Power Utility Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and Dong Nai have signed an agreement to expand the capacity of the 400 MW Tri An hydropower project in Dong Nai Province by 200 MW.
The expansion of the hydroelectric project is estimated at about VND3.9 trillion (US$170 million). The project is southern Vietnam's biggest power plant and the sixth-largest hydropower plant in Vietnam. It was built in 1991 on the Dong Nai River in Vinh Cuu District, 65 km from HCMC. The facility has four 100-MW turbines which are going to increase by 2 more turbines with a total capacity of 200 MW.
A new bridge will also be built over the Dong Nai River to replace a ferry and make it easier for transporting construction materials for the project. The province will hand over 94 hectares for the construction, including 40 ha of forests. The construction will begin in the second quarter of next year and be finished in 2026.
