El Salvador prepared the way for the construction of its first wind project. The government signed a contract with Ventus SA de CV, in charge of constructing the 54 MW wind park located in Metapan, of Santa Ana. Ventus SA de CV is a unit of Tracia Network Corporation, a power generation operator based in Guatemala.

The wind project was awarded to Tracia Network in renewable energy auction in 2017. The project will have an investment of USD 73.23 million for ten years.

In addition, the wind project will create 20 permanent jobs in the operations and maintenance phase and 300 jobs during the construction phase. The project can provide clean electricity to approximately 80,000 local homes.

The beginning of the construction phase is not yet determined.
