Two winners announced for ACT renewables auction

Australian Capital Territory’s (ACT) has awarded to Global Power Generation (GPG) formed by Union Fenosa Wind Australia and Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA), and the consortium formed by Neoen International SAS and Megawatt Capital, the contracts to respectively develop two wind projects in Australia targeting 200 MW of capacity.

Global Power Generation (GPG) will be in charge of the Crookwell 2 wind farm in New South Wales. The 91-MW wind project has been awarded under a record low rate of AUD 86.60/MWh (US$65.4/MWh). The project consist of 28 wind turbines capable to generate enough power to cover 41,600 homes. The wind farm is expected to be commissioned by 2018.

The other project, to be developed by Neoen International SAS and Megawatt Capital involves the third stage of the Hornsdale project with 35 turbines to produce enough to power 56,600 Canberra homes. This project rated AUD73/MWh (US$55.5/MWh).

According to sources GPG will invest certain AUD177 million (US$133 million) in Crockwell II and other projects in Australia.
